Once upon a time, in a sunny meadow filled with wildflowers and soft green grass, there lived a hardworking ant and a carefree grasshopper.
The ant was always busy. From the first light of dawn to the glow of twilight, he carried grains of food to his nest. He was preparing for the cold winter ahead.
Meanwhile, the grasshopper spent his days singing, dancing, and basking in the sun. “Why work so hard, Ant?” the grasshopper laughed. “The sun is shining, and the days are long. There’s plenty of time to relax!”
But the ant replied, “Winter is coming, Grasshopper. If I don’t store food now, I’ll go hungry when the snow covers the ground.”
Summer Days Turn to Fall
As the days grew shorter and the air turned crisp, the ant continued his diligent work, carrying more and more food into his nest. The grasshopper, however, ignored the signs of the changing seasons.
“Come join me in my song, Ant,” said the grasshopper, strumming his fiddle. “Why worry about winter when it’s so far away?”
But the ant simply shook his head. “I must prepare now so I can rest later,” he said.
Winter Arrives
Soon, winter arrived, covering the meadow in a thick blanket of snow. The once-lush grass was gone, and the flowers had withered.
The ant stayed warm and cozy in his nest, with plenty of food to eat. But the grasshopper shivered in the cold, hungry and regretful.
Realizing his mistake, the grasshopper went to the ant’s nest and knocked on the door. “Ant, I’m cold and hungry,” he said. “Could you share some of your food with me?”
The ant thought for a moment. “Grasshopper, during the summer, I worked hard to prepare for this moment. You spent your days singing and dancing. Do you think that was wise?”
The grasshopper hung his head in shame. “I see now that I was foolish. I should have worked like you did.”
Feeling compassionate, the ant shared some of his food with the grasshopper, but he also gave him advice. “Next time, Grasshopper, remember this: hard work and preparation always pay off.”
