Rapunzel: A Classic Fairy Tale for Kids
Once Upon a Time in a Magical Land
In a faraway kingdom, a couple lived happily but longed for a child. One day, the wife fell ill and desired a rare herb called “rapunzel,” which grew in the garden of a wicked witch named Gothel.
Her husband, desperate to save her, sneaked into the witch’s garden to steal the herb. Unfortunately, he was caught. The witch, furious, demanded that they give her their child in return.
Soon after, the couple had a baby girl. True to her word, Gothel took the baby away and named her Rapunzel.
Rapunzel’s Tower
Rapunzel grew into a beautiful girl with long, golden hair that possessed magical healing powers. Afraid that someone might steal her, Gothel locked Rapunzel in a tall tower hidden deep in the forest. The tower had no stairs or door, only a single window.
Whenever Gothel wanted to visit, she would stand below the tower and call out:
“Rapunzel, Rapunzel, let down your hair!”
Rapunzel would lower her long braid, and Gothel would climb up.
A Prince Discovers the Tower
One day, a prince was riding through the forest when he heard Rapunzel singing. Her voice was so sweet that it drew him closer. Hidden among the trees, he saw Gothel calling for Rapunzel to let down her hair.
The prince waited until Gothel left, then approached the tower and called out:
“Rapunzel, Rapunzel, let down your hair!”
When Rapunzel lowered her braid, the prince climbed up. At first, Rapunzel was frightened, but the prince assured her he meant no harm. They soon became friends and fell in love.
The Escape Plan
The prince visited Rapunzel secretly every night. They planned her escape—he would bring a silk ladder so she could climb down. But before their plan could succeed, Gothel discovered them.
Enraged, Gothel cut off Rapunzel’s golden hair and banished her to a desolate land. She then waited in the tower for the prince, pretending to be Rapunzel.
The Prince’s Journey
When the prince arrived, Gothel threw Rapunzel’s braid down for him to climb. As he reached the top, Gothel pushed him out of the tower. The prince fell into a bed of thorns, which blinded him.
Despite his blindness, the prince wandered the forest, determined to find Rapunzel.
Love and Healing
After months of searching, the prince heard Rapunzel’s voice. Overjoyed, he followed the sound and found her.
Rapunzel wept tears of joy, and as her tears fell on the prince’s eyes, they healed his blindness. The two returned to the prince’s kingdom, where they married and lived happily ever after.
