🎆 The Story: The Gunpowder Plot

🏰 A Time of Trouble

Many years ago, in England during the early 1600s, people were divided because of their religion. King James I ruled the country, and some groups were unhappy with his laws.

Among those unhappy people was a man named Robert Catesby, who came up with a dangerous plan. He gathered a group of men, including Guy Fawkes, a soldier known for his bravery, to help him carry out his idea.

Catesby’s plan? 💣
To blow up the Houses of Parliament in London and remove the king!

💣 Guy Fawkes and the Gunpowder

Guy Fawkes was in charge of hiding 36 barrels of gunpowder in the cellar beneath the Parliament building. The plan was to light the fuse when the King and his government met there on November 5, 1605.

At first, everything seemed to be going as planned. But one of the men in the group began to worry, innocent people would be hurt. So, he secretly sent a letter warning his friend, who worked in Parliament.

That letter saved many lives.
